Guidelines for Passport Size Photos
To ensure your passport-size photo meets the standards of various countries, follow these guidelines:
United States Requirements
- Submit a high-resolution color photo, taken in last 6 months (no blurriness, graininess, or pixelation).
- Use a plain white or off-white background.
- Passport photo size: 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm).
- The head must be between 1 – 1 3/8 inches (25 – 35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head.
- Do not digitally alter the photo.
- A neutral facial expression or a natural smile, with both eyes open.
- Face the camera directly with full face in view.
- No glasses allowed. If glasses can’t be removed for medical reasons, include a signed note from your doctor.
- No hats or head coverings (unless for religious or medical reasons with a signed statement).
- A hat or head covering should not block the hairline or cast shadows.
- Jewelry and facial piercings are allowed, as long as they don’t hide the face.
- Permanent tattoos are acceptable.

United Kingdom Requirements
- Size: 35 x 45 mm
- Head size: 29-34 mm
- Neutral expression, closed mouth
- The photo must be clear, focused, and in color.
- Minimum resolution: 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels tall.
- File size should be between 50KB and 10MB.
- The background should be plain and light-colored.
- Avoid any shadows on your face or in the background.
- No head covering unless for religious or medical reasons.
